Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and for single women it can feel like your worst nightmare!

All of the lovey-dovey Instagram posts and gift exchanges of seemingly “perfect” couples shine a judgmental spotlight on everyone’s relationship status. However, there are other ways to appreciate the lovey-ness of the season…besides chocolate being half price the next day.

Whether you’re single, taken or in a situationship, it is important to show your girlfriends love too—that’s why Galentine’s Day was created. Women celebrating women, friends celebrating friends and the emphasis on self-love and empowerment are crucial to the Galentine’s Day holiday.

Here are 10 things to do this Galentine’s Day in Fairfield to celebrate you and your girls:

There are so many great places in Fairfield to book a nail appointment to pamper you and your girls. Some Fairfield faves are Bright Nails, Grand Design Nail Salon and Ceci Nail & Spa. Just recently Wine N Cheese Day Spa opened on Post Road. They offer bundles such as the “Happy Hour Mani-Pedi” and the “Wine and Cheese Spa Day,” where you can eat cheese and sip on mimosas, margaritas or wine all while experiencing the relaxation of getting your fingers or toes done. And if you don’t want to splurge, you and your girlfriends can always buy your own nail polish and be each other’s nail artists!

Explore local boutiques like Apricot Lane, Ciao Bella and consignment boutique Olive My Stuff, and indulge in some retail therapy this Galentine’s Day. You can also check out some local thrift stores for unique pieces in the area. After you and your girl gang pick out some styles, have your own DIY fashion show!

Hit the karaoke bars and belt out some of your favorite girl power tunes (singing some Britney Spears, Lady Gaga or Beyoncé would suffice). Blvd Karaoke in Bridgeport and Windmill Tavern in Stratford are two fun karaoke night joints to check out. Park City Music Hall and Fairfield Theater Company are also awesome venues for music and shows. You can also order a bluetooth mic on Amazon for as low as $15 and have the best “open mic night” with your friends at home. Did someone say “Pitch Perfect’s rendition of ‘Since U Been Gone’ sing-along?”

At Fairfield University, we are so lucky that The Big Apple is only a train ride away! Grab your friends, put on a fun outfit, ride the Metro North down to Grand Central and have a day! Visit the museums (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The MoMA, The Whitney), walk around Soho, see a Broadway show and take in all the scenes with your girls! Make sure you take a disposable camera too and capture all of your city girl adventures!

Attend a fitness class with you and your gal-pals– whether it’s Orange Theory, F45, Soul Cycle or a class in the RecPlex—Breaking a sweat with your friends is not only healthy, but also loads of fun.

No need for couples to own the fancy dinner idea; gather a few girlfriends to go out for a nice dinner to celebrate Galentine’s Day! Some fancier Fairfield faves are The Chelsea, The Sinclair, Quattro Pazzi, Fairfield Social, Martel Bistro and Bar BONDA and Aurora’s. Some more casual spots include Archie Moore’s, Local Kitchen and Bar, Mecha Noodle Bar, Colony Pizza, Malibu and Thai Kit. You can also cook a nice dinner with your friends— pizza or taco nights are always a blast. Whichever way you decide to gather, a meal together, a nice conversation and a toast to your friendship is priceless!

Familiar with “Secret Santa?”  Well, “Secret Cupid” is the same idea. For this Galentine’s Day idea, organize a gift swap between you and your friends. Pick a random name out of a hat, create a budget and reveal your gifts to each other on Galentine’s Day. This is a great way to show appreciation for each other while also showing your creative side! Everyone loves gifts!

Organize a movie night and watch some of your favorite films that feature female friendships! Some enjoyable Galentine’s Day-approved ones to check out are Ladybird, Bridesmaids, Clueless, Pitch Perfect, Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, Bring It On, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Mean Girls, Wine Country, Thelma & Louise, Barbie, Booksmart, Frances Ha,  Heathers and Edge of Seventeen.

Show your competitiveness and have a game night with your girls this Galentine’s Day. Play classic games like Monopoly, Scrabble, Life, Clue or go for some of the newer games like Telestrations, Tapple and Hues and Clues. You can also go the ~deeper~ route and play games like We’re Not Really Strangers, For the Girls or What Do You Meme? Let’s Get Deep: Friends Edition.

Bundle up and take a stroll down Post Road and around the town of Fairfield. You really can’t go wrong because all of the coffee shops, shopping, ice cream, restaurants and art galleries are enough to keep you and your girlfriends busy– laughter and good conversations are inevitable!

Regardless of your Valentine’s Day plans, make this Galentine’s Day a good one. Remember the importance of female friendships and self-love!

Happy Galentine’s Day girls!

XOXO,

Monica
