The 2022 Major League Baseball playoffs officially began Friday with four matchups between eight teams, vying for a spot in their league’s divisional series.

The Cleveland Guardians prevailed over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 with a score of 2-1. Jose Siri got the scoring underway with a solo shot for Tampa, but that was quickly answered by a 2-run homer from Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez. 

The pitching path to victory for Cleveland was Shane Bieber during 7.2 innings and Emmanuel Clase for 1.1 innings. 

Today’s pitching matchup is Tyler Glasnow versus Triston McKenzie as the Rays face elimination. 

The Philadelphia Phillies scored six runs at the top of the ninth inning to shock the Cardinals in Game 1 at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead off of Juan Yepez’s 2-run, pinch-hit homer in the seventh inning. The Phillies scored six runs in the ninth inning on three hits, two walks, and a hit by pitch. Miles Mikolas gets the ball for the Cardinals today as they look to avoid elimination. 

The Seattle Mariners threw up a 3-spot on the Toronto Blue Jays’ Alek Manoah in the first inning and never looked back. Luis Castillo pitched 7.1 scoreless innings for the Mariners. It’ll be Robbie Ray versus Kevin Gausman today as the Mariners look to take the series in “Vlad’s house.”

The San Diego Padres knocked four long balls against the New York Mets in a 7-1 win at Citi Field. The Padres’ Yu Darvish battled as the Mets’ Max Scherzer was hammered. It’ll be the Mets’ Jacob deGrom versus the Padres’ Blake Snell in Queens, New York for Game 2.
