Fairfield University Men’s Basketball got their first win of the season in their home opener on Monday night with a 92-45 rout against the Mount Saint Mary Knights.

Four Stags scored in the double figures for the first home game of the season with G Louis Bleechmore leading the way with 19 points and four rebounds.

The Knights (0-1) failed to have a man in the double figures with F Ben Toussaint finishing with eight points as the leading scorer off the bench.

G James Johns Jr. scored 17 off the bench with 10 rebounds, G Brycen Goodine scored 14 in the starting role with seven assists and seven rebounds and the true freshman F Peyton Smith put up 13 points and seven rebounds in place of the injured forwards Birima Seck and Alexis Yetna.

The Stags (1-2) put in a team effort that started on the defensive end. Active hands and an aggressive full court press led to 10 steals that made up a total 12 turnovers for the Knights.

An impressive home debut began with Smith who added two blocks to his seven rebounds. Three of those rebounds came as offensive rebounds within the first fourth of the game, helping lead to an early 17-5 start for the Stags.

The Knights attempted just 20 three point attempts, making six of them while the Stags nearly doubled that with 39 attempts and 15 made threes.

The Stags look to take on Drexel this Friday in Philadelphia to reach an even 2-2 record.
