The temperature has dropped, Stags are in flannels, pumpkin iced lattes are selling out, and it finally feels like fall! Here’s some fun activities that you can do with your friends in Fairfield, Conn. 

Fairfield Harvest Market at Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Rd.

(5-minute drive from Fairfield’s campus)

Are you a dog person? Stop by the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce Harvest Market on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to watch the Halloween Costume Dog Parade! The market will also feature over 80 shopping vendors, food trucks and a Giant Pumpkin “Guess the Weight” contest. Entry is free!

Annual Harvest Fair at Hope River Farm, 1230 Merwins Lane 

(11-minute drive from Fairfield’s campus)

Stop by Hope River Farm from 12:00-4:00 p.m. on October 14, 15, 21 or 22 for its ninth annual Harvest Fair! Enjoy a hayride, a brand new inflatable corn maze, a beer garden, a petting zoo and light snacks for $15 per person. 

Harvest Fair After Dark – Haunted Hayride and House of Frankenstein

In for a scare? Visit Hope River Farm on any Friday or Saturday in Oct. from 7:00-10:00 p.m. to go on their haunted hayride and walk through the House of Frankenstein. The cost is $20 per person…if you dare.  

Silverman’s Pumpkin Patch and Animal Farm in Easton, Conn. 

(17-minute drive from Fairfield’s campus)

Visit Silverman’s animal farm any day of the week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to see all sorts of animals, including: buffalo, llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, emus and long-horn cattle. You can also visit the pumpkin patch and pick out some nice pumpkins to carve back on campus! There is a small $6 fee to pet the animals and pick out a pumpkin—but guess the weight of your pumpkin within two ounces and it’s completely free!

Apple Picking at Beardsley Cider Mill & Orchard in Shelton, Conn. 

(30-minute drive from Fairfield’s campus)

Craving a delicious homemade apple pie? Pick your own apples at Beardsley Cider Mill & Orchard on a Sunday or Monday in October from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Apple varieties include Macoun, Empire, Red Delicious, Liberty, Jonagold and Crimson Topaz! It’s cash only at $20 per bag but there is an ATM on site.
