Fairfield University announced on October 16 that its Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Jay Young, had stepped down from his position and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, Chris Casey, will be assuming the role of interim head coach for the 2023-24 season.

The news comes just three weeks before the Stags’ season starts.

The University thanked Young for his time as head coach in its announcement, but does not provide reasoning for his sudden departure from the team.

In response to student speculation, Vice President of Marketing and Communications Jennifer Anderson provided the following response to The Rearview: “The University does not comment on rumors or speculation, nor can the University comment on personnel matters.”

Young had served as the Stags head coach for four seasons, leading the team to a 50-73 record and an appearance in the 2021 MAAC Championship game.
