Yesterday, the Fairfield University Board of Trustees announced its new Chair and Vice Chair, as well as several new trustees. Sheila Kearney Davidson, the newly-appointed Chair, is the first female in the university’s history to hold the position, according to a university news release.

Davidson graduated cum laude from Fairfield University in 1983, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. She then went on to earn her J.D. from George Washington University, and currently works as the executive vice president and chief legal and administrative officer of New York Life Insurance Company.

Having been a trustee since 2003, Davidson has said of her elevation, “It is an exceptional honor to be elected the first female Chair of the Board of Trustees, and a privilege to have the opportunity to serve Fairfield alongside its outstanding leadership and faculty.”

As a first-generation college student, Davidson is “deeply committed to [Fairfield University’s] mission as a modern, Jesuit, Catholic university with a rich and inclusive student experience.”

Davidson has been cited for her commitment to diversity, and was even named one of America’s 50 Outstanding General Counsel by the National Law Journal in 2016.

Brian P. Hull, an alumnus of Fairfield’s Class of 1980 and parent of a 2013 graduate, was elected as Vice Chair. Hull, who currently serves as managing director and executive vice chairman of UBS Americas, became a trustee in 2005.

Hull demonstrates his commitment to Jesuit education through his fervent support of St. Ignatius School in Hunts Point, N.Y., which intends to “break the cycle of poverty” in its distinctly Jesuit model of education. Furthermore, Hull is also chairman of the North Health Cancer Institute Advisory Council and is a leader on the Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services Command Council.

In addition to these two positions, the Board announced the appointment of two new trustees, Maureen Errity Bujno ’90 and Hugh Davis ‘95.

Bujno is a managing director in Deloitte LLPs Center for Board Effectiveness and serves as the company’s Audit and Assurance Governance leader. She also serves on the advisory board for the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, having earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Fairfield in 1990.

Davis, an entrepreneur, executive and founder of Reimagine Holdings Group in Westport, Conn., also joined the board as a trustee. Davis earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Fairfield in 1995.

Fairfield University President Mark R. Nemec, PhD. expressed his welcome, stating “We welcome Fairfield University’s new Board Chair, Vice Chair and trustees and with a spirit of gratitude for the thoughtful partnership and exceptional dedication of [previous Chair] Frank Carroll III ’89.”
